Cheating Celeb Husbands: I've HAD it!

I've kept my mouth shut for far too long. I didn't say anything about Elliott. I maintained my silence about Tiger (did you see the freakin' latest, btw??). I've bitten my tongue about John. I zipped it about David. And there were more. Through it all, I silently fumed and cursed. But today? When I heard about Jesse? I decided I couldn't take it anymore. So I'm breaking my silence.

WTH is wrong with these men? Do they think that having power, success, fame and money gives them license to be jerks? Is infidelity really innate? Is it because they're treated like spoiled brats and never told "no"? They have beautiful, intelligent, loving wives that are good mothers to their children. Is that no longer enough?

Someone please help me out here. I.JUST.DON'T.GET.IT.

Martha and Me

I'm so glad that I went. Even though common sense and my already-hectic life weighed against it, two Thursdays ago I ventured to Manhattan to be a part of the audience on the Martha Stewart Show. She was having a special show dedicated to blogging and I was lucky enough to be invited to hang out with blogging buddies that I rarely get to see IRL like Niri and Prissy Mommy and StyleMom and Sunkissed Mommy, The Broke Socialite, and Jeanne - I could go on.

Martha's studio was fantastic (really, was I expecting anything less?). It was bright and spacious and perfectly decorated. The test kitchen caused this wannabe-foodie to gasp when I walked in, as did the kitchen set, which was bigger and more glamorous than my actual kitchen. Martha's definitely doin' the damn thing.

As for the domestic diva herself? She was much better in person than I expected. I don't know what it is, but when I actually (try to) watch her show on TV, I immediately get bored. I don't know if it's because I don't really care for crafting or gardening or if its the monotone nature of her voice, but I just can't get with it. I'll buy her cookbooks and magazines all day though. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see that not only does she have a personality, she's actually a firecracker!

Her show guests included "The Whatever Girls" (her daughter Alexis Stewart and Jennifer Koppelman-Hutt), food blogger Chez Pim, journalist Brian Williams and actor Jeff Blumenkrantz. An awesome-smelling pad thai; postively gorgeous Orange-Almond cake; and some random craft later (see? I told you); the cameras turned off and Martha turned it on for a fun Q&A session. It ended with a roar of laughter and applause as she hiked her leg up 'pon the table to show us her 6-inch, gold, Yves St-Laurent stilettos. She's the real deal.

Oh and I must note that the music in her studio was live and direct. I mean they were playing hip hop, reggae, rock and it was pumpin'. To top it all off, on our way out we each got a copy of Pim's new book: The Foodie Handbook (yes, I almost died). In fact, I read almost all of of it on the ride home to DC. It's now next to my bed where I can catch a glimpse of the wonderful goodness that lies inside right before I go to bed and first thing in the morning. Yes, I realize that I have issues.

After the show, I had a lovely lunch with StyleMom and SunKissed Mommy - at a Thai place of course - since we had Thai on the brain after smelling Chez Pim's creations on the set. All in all it was a great trip, well worth the 4-hour ride each way.

The Streets Will Make You Feel Brand New...

I'm headed to New York City tomorrow and will be in the studio audience of The Martha Stewart Show live taping on Thursday! She's doing a show devoted to bloggers and the lovely ladies of Mamalaw were fortunate enough to be offered tickets. Of course Jonesie and Ny are being LAME-Os and have all kinds of excuses as to why they can't come - they say it's because of work...I say it's because they ain't 'bout it.

Tee Hee.

Anyway, I'm super excited for a few reasons: (1) I've never been to a talk show taping before! The college television production major in me is chomping at the bit; (2) Each of us is asked to bring a tech device so that we can live blog and tweet during the show. What's the big deal? I get to bring my spankin' new MacBookPro!! It's fresh out of the box as of last night. Woot!; (3) I get to spend the night at my college best friend's house. I haven't seen her since her wedding in 2008...and she's pregnant. I can't wait; (4) Finally, I am looking forward to seeing some bloggy friends. Word on the street is that Jeanne from Yahoo! Moms will be there, The Broke Socialite, SunKissed Mommy and a bunch more.

There ain't no party like a blogger party!

(What is with me tonight and the "ain'ts"?)

Anyway, look for me on Twitter on Thursday to hear all about MARTHA. Should be fun, yes?

So What's the Verdict

I'm sure that by now many of you have scene or heard about Kanye West's rude behavior during the MTV VMA's on Sunday. On Monday he appeared on Jay Leno and um, apoligized, um, you know. Check it out and let me know what you think.

MamaLaw Weekly: Celeb News

First, I must start off with a RHOA update. Have you all heard Kim Z.'s first single "Tardy for the Party"? I love Kim, I really do. But this song is not hittin'. I would have thought with high-powered producers behind her, she would have come out with a chart topper. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Tardy For The Party (Mix) - Kim Zolciak

Kim and NeNe had it out on the Ryan Seacrest Show about the altercation they got into recently. I'm kind of sad because after all, I thought they were going to rekindle their friendship when all was said and done.

So I'm thinking of adding chunky blonde highlights to my hair. My inspiration is the lovely Eva Marcille in last month's issue of Essence. I'm not a radical hair kind of gal, so this would be major for me. Do you think it's a good look?

And finally, today marks the eighth anniversary of Aaliyah's death. Can you believe it? Eight years. I still remember when I heard the tragic news on the radio. Hubby (then my BF) and I were headed out to party with some friends who were in town visiting. We were in the car and were all shocked by the announcement on the music station we were listening to. Needless to say our mood was dampened and we spent the evening subdued, in disbelief that young, beautiful Aaliyah was suddenly gone. R.I.P. pretty lady.

Real Housewives D.C. - Get Your 15 Minutes of Fame!

It's all over the news media here: Bravo TV is planning for the next spinoff of its Real Housewives series to be set in...Washington, D.C. It was just a matter of time, really. Now that the Obamas are in the White House, D.C. is "hot" again. According to the reports Bravo Media executive VP and GM Frances Berwick said:

"We're tapping personalities who are among Washington D.C.'s influential players, cultural connoisseurs, fashion sophisticates and philanthropic leaders - the people who rub elbows with the most prominent people in the country and easily move in the city's diverse political and social circles."

Hmmm, so I guess I'm out of the running. Heh heh.

Far be it from me to block anyone else's chance at reality TV fame, though. If you're interested, here are the details for the casting call:

EMMY AWARD-WINNING LOS ANGELES BASED PRODUCTION COMPANY is NOW CASTING for a new docu-reality series set in Washington DC! We are currently looking for a range of women in DC, from young up-and-comers (determined staffers, aspiring
politicians, fearless journalists, and fledgling socialites) to the real
powerbrokers on the Hill (commanding congresswomen, sassy socialites and dymanic divas in charge) We want the wonder women of Washington who know the ins and outs of both the political and social scene. The show will follow the lives of these high-octane women as they tackle the daily dramas that only DC can dish out. Our company currently has nine series on the air and would like to feature you in one of our next series!

If you and your circle of friends are interested and worthy of having your own show, please submit an email to: Weingradcasting@gmail.com

Please include: Name, age, occupation, give a brief bio of who you are,
tell us why you think you should have your own show. Don’t forget to add
recent photos, and a contact number where you can be reached.

MUST LIVE IN THE DC AREA

And there you have it. Glad to do my part in perpetuating the trashy goodness that is reality TV. So far, powerplayers like Edwina Rogers have been tapped for the show. Though according to early critics, the D.C. season may be a snooze.

Racy!

Going Red with the American Heart Association

We are in Dallas, ya'll!! The Mamas are here on behalf of the American Heart Association's newest project. We are having such a blast. We have been in the studio since 10 am this morning in hair and make-up, changing wardrobe, changing looks, and all that good stuff that comes along with being fabulous (read - a mom blogger).

I thought I would sneak in a quick post just to fill ya'll in. When we arrived the weather was terrible so we were all slightly delayed. When we finally met up, we rushed to grab a taxi and asked him to take us to Irving, Blvd. When we arrive, we are in some shady looking shopping center that looked like no where we wanted to be. We finally realized that he took us to Irving Blvd. in Irving, Texas, instead of Irving Blvd. in Dallas, Texas. What were the chances?

Oops, we're back on set.
Follow us on Twitter (Blogalicious09) for funny updates on what's going on.

No More Beyonthe

Giggles is obsessed with "Single Ladies" by Beyonce. Yes, yes, I realize it is my fault that she even knows what the song is seeing as how she is all of 3 years old. Really, the only place they hear "grown folks music" is when we're driving in the car on the weekends for all of a few minutes when they're not glued to their VeggieTales or Disney Princess dvds (as you can see I am a model parent). But there is just something about that song that makes Giggles just light up. She breaks out in a toothy grin and gets to groovin'. So one day at home I thought it would be fun to play the video for them OnDemand. BIG MISTAKE. She wanted to watch it over and over and over and over and over and over. And that is too much gyrating and shaking for anybody to watch, let alone a preschooler. So I had to put my foot down after the sixth time she watched the video and I turned it off. The next thing I know, she was running through the house half-yelling, half-whining, with her little-girl-lisp: "Dad! Mommy thaid no more Beyonthe!!!" It was all I could do to keep from falling down laughing.

Talk about things I never thought I'd hear my 3-year old say!

"Salma Hayek Breastfeeds African Baby"

Talk about a headline that grabs your attention. I first heard about this story on a radio show and then, of course, immediately googled the headline as soon as I could get my hands on a computer. The backstory is that Salma (I can call her that since we're such close and personal friends) was on a Goodwill trip to Sierra Leone and Nightline was along for the ride to document her trip. While on the trip, she met a mother whose milk had dried up and who was unable to feed her hungry newborn baby. So...Salma nursed the baby herself.

Disney's Mad Women

I never finished posting about my fabulous trip to Disney. Hi Disney Moms! In case you missed my post from two weeks ago, a group of us were invited to Disney so that we could provide the Disney folks our two cents on Disney's current marketing and advertising campaigns. The focus was whether Disney does or doesn't appeal to African-American families, and why. We spent a great weekend with several Disney executives that either oversee or work directly in PR and advertising. (Thumbs up, BTW, to Disney, for having such a diverse staff! More companies should model your commitment to diversity!)

Being with these women who shared an obvious energy about their company was awesome. The whole time I was there I kept thinking of the show, Mad Men. You know, the best show on television. Set in the 1960's, the main characters of the show are a group of high powered advertising men that work on Madison Avenue in Manhattan, NY. If you haven't scene it before, I warn you, you'll get addicted. Check it out on Demand.

The men of Mad Men would never think to sit down with a group of consumers, especially women, and ask us what we thought. They are above that, much to smart, paid way too mujch, and, much to talented to even think of such thing. Not Disney's Mad Women. They sat us down for some straight talk about the company. What they are doing right or wrong, and what could be done differently. Amazing.

Isn't it great how as bloggers, we have the ability to impact the advertising world? How we can share our opinions, ideas, or criticisms and people will listen? We can reach out to tens of people every day, (ha, ha), that we've never met and then end up being hosted by a company because they want our two cents on their product. How cool is that?

Well, I love Disney, and have always loved Disney, and even before they treated me to champagne, limousine service, and before I sat around a table in a bar taking shots of lemon drops with one of their mad women, I was a fan of the company. Now I'm hooked.

By the way, for any other companies that may come across this post, I've got a lot of opinions, so feel free to contact me if you want to put me up for a weekend. (*wink!)

PS, Did I mention that I met Patrick Ewing while at Disney? Hey Patrick!! Remember to leave a comment! :)

Gosh I Have Good Taste

So I'm watching Episode 5 of my beloved Top Chef - Miami last night and imagine my surprise when Padma announces that the guest judge for the contestants' pastry challenge is Maria Frumkin - the very woman who made my wedding cake! So I elbow hubby and exclaim, "hey! remember Maria? She did our cake!" And of course he has absolutely no recollection of the woman. Even though we drove an hour and a half to her cafe in Miami, had lunch with her, and did an entire cake tasting. At which he adamantly chose the banana filling. A choice to which I conceded because, after all, marriage is all about compromise, right? So why not get a head start? But I digress.

But really, he even completely drove by Chatterbox's school this morning when dropping off her school forms and had to call me to remind him where the building was, so why on earth would he recall meeting an Argentinian pastry chef 5 years ago. It wouldn't be natural.

And since we're talking about food and chefs and whatnot, I forgot to tell y'all that I saw Govind Armstrong while we were in New Orleans. And if you have no idea who Govind Armstrong is, you betta' ask somebody.

I dragged hubby into Sucre on Magazine Street because I'm a sucker for anything pastry-sweet-boutique related and even from outside, the place looked fabulous. As soon as I stepped foot in the door, there he was. In all of his beautiful skin and hair glory. I froze. It was pathetic! I totally was starstruck by a chef. A chef for pete's sake. And it's not even like it was Rachael Ray (I know I know, she's not a "chef") or Emeril who are clearly big celebs. Of course, I didn't say hi or anything but instead tried to act very nonchalant and very cosmopolitan and pretended to inspect the confections for the proper consistency of the marzipan and the like, because HELLO! that's what real chefs do.

And then we left. Hubby kept trying to convince me to take a picture of Chef Armstrong with my camera phone but I refused. After all, I am not some crazy-fan-chef-stalker-chick. Right? Right??

Though he kinda makes it hard not to be.

Well, She Can't Be That Dumb...

Is it bad that I am loving Jessica Simpson's new line of shoes?

Cheers to Sanjaya

I felt so bad for Sanjaya last night. (I wanted to post to the blog, but I was already in bed, so that wasn't happening). Anyway, back to the point at hand.....I really felt bad for him. As they went to the commercial break, he was happy and smiling and he even cheered the crowd on - he seemed quite oblivious to the fact that an elimination was about to occur. I wondered whether he didn't care at all or whether his upbeat attitude was because he had been in the bottom three on previous occasions and had lost the fear that he was going home. Needless to say, when they announced his name, he broke down in tears. Oh.....my heart went out to him.

I will admit that I loved Sanjaya at his audition. He was just the sweetest thing and I loved and admired his humility and care for his sister (for those of you who didn't catch that episode, both Sanjaya and his sister auditioned, but Sanjaya went after his sister. His sister qualified to move onto the next round and after he sang (and he was pretty good) the judges asked him who was better between he and his sister and he said that his sister was better and they told him that he was better. Furthermore, after he qualified to move on to the next round, the cameras followed him outside and he and his sister shared their stories and his sister asked him whether the judges compared the two and he told her that they did and said that she was the better singer between them - how sweet!

So, despite his horrible performances since the audition, I really felt his pain last night. Here's to Sanjaya's spirit and his resiliency!!!!

I Never Thought I'd See the Day When a Show on MTV Would Make Me Cry...

Did anybody watch the season premiere of "Run's House"? I just loved that show's first season. When I heard last year that Run & Justine's baby died at birth I was devastated. Watching their close-knit, fun-loving family during the first season made it feel like you "knew" them. I didn't think they would continue with the show because of what happened...but they did. And this first episode of the new season shows right before, and right after, Justine gave birth. So sad. But they way they handled the tragedy is so heartwarming. So if you get a chance to see a re-run (no pun intended), watch it! Actually, I think you can watch it online too.

And now back to the mindless drivel MTV calls original programming.

Emmy Awards, Here She Comes

So, I've been keeping up with Risa's struggles as she has been trying to get her book, Notes From the Underbelly, made into a tv show. It's something that's been in the works for a while now but you know how those pesky Hollywood folks can be. [Ok, neither do I but I imagine they're impossible!] Over the weekend I was watching tv, and wouldn't you know it? I saw a preview for her show! The pilot is finally going to air on April 11th on ABC. Yay Risa!! [When the preview came on I shouted to my husband: "Hey! I 'know' her! I read her blog!" He was unmoved.] Anyway, make sure to congratulate her about the show on her blog and don't forget to watch - it's a show us moms can enjoy.

Synopsis:
The series will chronicle the life of Andrew and Lauren, a couple who are expecting their first child and the unlikely help and advice of their family and friends who also want to share in the couples' joy and other hilarious pains on the road to parenthood.

* Updated* America, You Decide - Will Smith or Not?

On Tuesday I entered Hubby in the celebrity look alike contest on Live with Regis & Kelly. Everyone always stops to tell him he looks "just like Will Smith." Of course I always say he looks better than Will Smith :) Anyhoo, when I heard we could win $10,000, I decided to give it a go, why not? Let's see how much he really does look like Will Smith. So I enter Hubby on their website and the very next morning I get a call by David from ABC....! He wanted another pic of Hubby, had a few questions and then said that Jada was scheduled to appear on the show the following day and that they were going to show Jada Hubby's pic to see what she thought.

Well, they really did show Jada Hubby's picture. She didn't seem very enthusiastic about the whole thing but Kelly thought he was cute. (Hubby was the cute one, not the other guy with his shirt off.) But let me tell you how smitten Hubby was that Jada looked at his picture and actually compared Hubby to Will. And then one of Hubby's friends called to say how lucky he was that Jada saw his picture.

I didn't expect Jada to totally agree but I still think there is some resemblence . I'll upload the picture so that America can decide.

Britney' Spears' Meltdown and the Three Ring Circus.

Okay, any one else addicted to watching the Anna Nicole hearings?? It's like watching a bad train wreck. I just can't stop watching it. And, I will be the first to admit that I have watched almost every second of the hearings. The legal issues are all really interesting but the characters involved are priceless. And what I really want to know is, who is the Baby Daddy?? I've my bet on Larry. I can not wait until Judge Korda resumes the hearings and decides the jurisdiction issue. Then we will be one step closer to maybe finding out who the baby daddy is. America, this is important.

And the other hot topic, will Britney lose her babies? I mean what is she thinking? Clearly, she isn't thinking. She has lost it and needs more than just a 12 step program. Poor child. But..., has anyone seen these pictures. HILARIOUS! Thanks to Perez Hilton, I had a great laugh tonight.

PS. In all seriousness, I am praying for all these children involved. It's really sad.
