Help! I'm Teething

Yes, that's right. I have a tooth growing in and it's painful. Yesterday I was gnawing on carrots just to make the pain stop. I knew this was coming though. My wisdom teeth never grew in and for the last 25 years of my life I thought I was just lucky. Especially after countless number of friends in college and high school had theirs removed.

Well my luck ran out. Last December my dentist warned me. My x-rays showed my top two wisdom teeth coming through. Ha! I scoffed, he must be trying to make some extra Christmas money because I am 31 years old and teeth do not grow in your 30s!

Clearly they do. My top right wisdom tooth is coming in and is about halfway out, however, it has no room to grow. It's trying to make it's way out but my teeth that are perfectly straight thanks to two years of metal braces in high school, will not let it come out.

So I have no choice at this point but to have it removed. The thought of having teeth removed at my age just makes me want to jump out of a window (not just any window, but maybe one from a luxury suite in Paris, of course, because if I'm going down, I'm going down in style). So today, I'm making the call. I'm going to call my dentist and make an appointment to have this bad boy removed.

Wish me luck!

Have you had your wisdom teeth removed, if so, is it really that bad?

Help!

oh that bites! (pun intended?)

i actually had mine removed last year and...it sucked. i'm not even gonna lie to ya. but i was fully recovered after a couple of days.

use it as an opportunity to have your family wait on you hand and foot. and you can eat lots of ice cream too.

I had one removed at 21, and it was NOT fun. No one told me not to let the shot wear off before taking the medicene. Huge lesson learned! For the past two years my dentist has been trying his BEST to the others. NOPE!

About four years ago, my oldest daughter had all four removed at one time. Her dentist prescribed meds for her to take a couple of hours before the procedure, and I kept her well medicated afterwards. She did real well. I think STRONG meds before, and after is the way to go.

Good Luck with that. I've never had teeth removed and I hate the dentist. Maybe they'll put you to sleep while they pull your tooth.

Thanks for the tips! So I'll keep myself drugged to the max and maybe I'll just stay in a drug induced coma for an entire week to skip through the entire process. LOL

yes it hurts but the pain will go away in about a few days....I had two removed at one time when I was in my late 20s so I get it. but I'm a big baby when it comes to pain so I was laid up and letting my mom take care of me and putting my food in the blender...can you say baby food all over again.

good luck!!

Not fun. Stock up on lots of movies and have your favorite shakes or malts for a few days (but that won't help with the 5-pound plan!). And, good heavens, take the drugs early and often!

Make sure your dentist has TV with ear buds, or bring your iPod . . . the sounds during the procedure will not help your mental state!
Best wishes!!!

I had my wisdom teeth removed when I was 22 or 23. Although I had all four done at the same time and 2 of them were impacted it was that painful. I took pain killers once and used natural valerian root tea right after to keep the pain away.
