Exposed

Inevitably the day arrived; the day that hubby and I would have to scramble around, look for cover and make up a crazy, stupid story. Yes...that day came and it was quite hilarious! I knew it was coming but I didn't know when and I didn't expect it to be so soon.

You know how crazy busy it's been around here recently - working full time while trying to be a mom and wife, while planning a conference on my "spare time". So, something had to give, and s-e-x was that thing. I know, right....what a bummer!

So the other day I got home relatively early and princess was watching "On Demand" (her favorite) so hubby nudges me and invites me upstairs. I say why not because there was no time like that time and princess is usually good for a twenty minute block when she's watching a show On Demand. Hubby goes upstairs without notification to princess and I follow a few minutes later ostensibly to use the potty.

We get it going really quickly because time was of the essence. We're pretty much into it as we hear the pitter patter of little feet as she makes her way upstairs. Hubby grabs one cover leaving me very exposed so I rush for another one that's close by and we lay down under the covers.

"What are you guys doing?" she said very inquisitively.
"Oh, just relaxing and watching tv." we responded.
"Why are you watching tv up here?" suggesting that it didn't make any sense.
"You should come watch On Demand with me!" she said.
"Sure thing!" I said hoping that she would leave the room because I couldn't move from the position I assumed because I was undressed under the towel that I grabbed for cover.
"Let's go mommy" she said as she walked out the door.
"Phew!" I remarked to hubby "That was a close one."

I thought we would get a "pass" until she was about five but I didn't think that we would have to reserve activities at age three. How have you handled this situation - because I'm not the only one?

We always lock the door! And wait until they are asleep.

That is a great story. Believe it or not it was about 3 years after we moved into our new house before we noticed we had a lock on our bedroom door...now we use it all the time!

ah, now the kids are older, not a problem, they are never in...but there was a period of about seven years where we were so bloody quick and so quiet it was hardly worth it lol!

LOL. You have to be creative and use rooms or parts of the house where you know she won't be able to find you right away. Your room is an easy first gues, get creative!

Now that is FUNNY! My husband always says to make sure the door is locked, because the kids, even the 20 year old will just come in. Luckily, with 5 we've never been caught. Knock on wood. I've often wondered how I would react and what I would say.

How does your husband handle s-e-x being on the back burner. My husband often comments, "If I were a blog, I'd get more attention."

Sex was not "taboo" in my family, and neither was nudity. We were taught from a young age that nudity is a natural state and that clothes were optional everywhere but in public. Sex was also considered natural and adults spoke of it casually and respectfully around children. I remember walking in on my mom and step dad once. She simply said "We're busy right now, honey. I'll be out in a little bit." When I asked what she was doing, she explained that they were enjoying each other's company in a way that is for adults and that I would understand better when I was older. I took it like the "coffee is for adults" thing and didn't think about it again until I was and adult. In 5th grade she left an age appropriate book about sex on my bed, I found it after school, read through it and slowly developed a very healthy attitude. It's natural and for adults, let's keep it that way.

That has got to be too funny. Fortunately hubby and I haven't had that problem as yet. My 13 yo's room is on the lower level, so we just send him away and lock the door. My 13 month old is another story. We usually have to wait until he's sleep to do anything. Preferably at night because daytime naps can be long or short.

LOL! This is happening a lot lately. After our daughter busted us, we've taken to locking the door no matter what. My friendgirl shared that when their daughter walked in on them last week, her husband rolled on to the floor and scooted into the bathroom unseen by the daughter - leaving my friend under the covers trying to explain! I still haven't stopped laughing. Ah well, it is what it is :)

Ha! We have to get a lock on the door . . . our son walked in, but it was morning, so we hit the dirt and pretended we were just waking up. I do dread the older years, though, when they'll know what they're hearing and think "Oh gross!" :o)

Lol. I don't mean to laugh-yes I do. That is hilarious, only because it has happened to me and my hubs. Around here, we only take part in such activities if the kids are sleep. Locked doors brings about suspicion---Hey! whats going on in there! and I rather not explain.

I think you handled it just fine. thank goodness my little one can't walk or talk yet. I wouldn't know what to do!

Too funny - locking the door never works for us - the younger one just bangs on the door, starts screaming, then wakes the older, who proceeds to start scolding us that her brother NEEDS us and he woke her up, at which point we give up and scramble out of bed.
