Better Tuesdays: Stick a fork in it

As much as I have tried, I think I must pause my journey to becoming a Better Me at this time. This is not the encouraging news that you are looking for on this Better Tuesday, but I just can't figure out how to continue. I've tried over the past couple months to change my diet, eating habits and exercise regime, and as you know, I haven't experienced the weight loss that I expected; especially in comparison to the effort expended. Now, I'm pretty much at a cross roads and I feel too confused and too discouraged to move.

Despite being about 2 weeks behind the program schedule, I trekked along because I felt that I could catch up. Now, I'm 3 weeks behind, only about 5 pounds lighter, it's over 100 degrees in DC and I just can't find the time to devote to myself. I say myself, because I really didn't care too much about keeping up with the program, but I'm also being realistic and the next few weeks are only going to get busier.

This past week I thought not about Better U - I ate whatever, whenever and there was no exercise in sight. I was tired when I got home and what little exercise I was getting (by walking in the afternoon) I could no longer get because it was too hot. Tell me, when/where am I going to find the time? Where am I going to find the motivation?

I hope that I'm just moody or stressed because I can't give up. But that's where I'm at right now...

If it helps, think about the 5 pounds you lost already! It's always easy to fixate on the negative (the pounds yet to shed, the weight we haven't lost) than to remember the positive (the great achievement we've already accomplished). And tomorrow is always a new day. Best of luck!

I know it is hard! and listening to you vent I hear myself! So these words are for you AND me...as type "A" (yes I'm assuming), "can-do-must-do-will-do" women we often focus on the destination far more than the journey itself. I understand that right now you are not where you want to be...neither am I and I am sooo much bigger and older than you...but I have to believe (at least every OTHER day) that what I do today matters and that tomorrow gives me another chance to get it right.

If you can't get it done (and who said you had to keep up so precisely with the program?) because of the heat (and your many other equally important responsibilities)...then wait until it is cooler and try to find and consider other "adjustments" that will help in the meantime. (five pounds off certainly beats five pounds on! -believe me!)

You have done it (five pounds off) You must do it (health) and you WILL do it (because that's the kind of women we are!)
be kinder to yourself. I'm cheering for you!

I know it's hard. Don't give up. Try to be creative. Think of activities that you can do with your child that masks that fact that you're exercising. Hula Hoops will work wonders for your hips. Jump Rope is great cardio. Wii Fit. Etc...

Just.Don't.Give.Up.

Another tip that worked for me(when I used to be serious about exercise) is I set a time every day to working out. It takes 7 days to form a habit...

Don't forget about being 5 lbs. healthier . . . and the other food/health changes you've worked into your life! Those really count, even if the scale doesn't change. Every hour you add to your life by not contributing to heart disease or diabetes is so valuable. Don't be too hard on yourself!

Your post struck a chord with me. I too have been trying to make significant changes in my lifestyle-ones I hope to keep for the rest of my life and also incorporate into my families life, so with that long term goal I think it is okay to work on one thing at a time-like the eating habits. Once those have been established than I plan to move on to an exercise plan and so on...Good Luck with your journey.
