What do you want/need in a car?

We are gearing up for BlogHer next week - we're busy planning our wardrobes, figuring out our itineraries and most importantly checking all the details for our Blogalicious Lush Experience on Friday night (check it out here...shameless plug).

One of the many activities that we have planned is the Ford What Women Want Vehicle Tech and Quality Event. We're going on a tour of a plant where we will be able to meet some members of the Ford team and hear from them why they believe that Ford is different! I hope that we will be able to see for ourselves as well, and that the experience is going to be more interactive than demonstrative - I hope! In my opinion don't tell me that your product is great, let me try it and I'll tell you!!!!

Maybe I shouldn't be writing this post because my experience is a little ... hmmmm, let's say tinted. I drive a Jaguar that I hate and can't wait to get rid of. I've had it for about 2 1/2 years and it's been the worst car experience ever! I'm literally counting down the days until I can get rid of it. What's a little terrible is that fact that my model is said to be made by Ford. I don't know for sure - it says that it's made in England, but apparently all the parts are Ford parts ... but who knows!

For the first year and half that I had the car it was in the shop about 7 or 8 times for various reasons - actually, it was NEVER the same reason which was a little frustrating. And that's not what I expected or wanted in a car. Granted, it was a used car, but it was only a few years used when I bought it so I expected that everything would be fine. At that time princess was just over a year and going out with her was like throwing dice. I may have made it out to a location, but I was never sure whether the car was going to bring me back home. And being stuck in a place behind God's back is not very re-assuring especially when you have a toddler. So, my number one requirement is reliability! Now, of course I like all the frills and thrills that come with a luxury car - but if you're stuck on the side of the road waiting for Triple A, what use is plush leather seats with heat warmers or rain sensor wipers (I don't have those, but you get the gist). I would say that my rear sensors are absolutely lovely though. I'm so dependent on them that I don't think I'll be able to parallel park without them ever again.

So, I am very interested in seeing how things have changed at Ford and what we can expect from them in the future. I have my opinions about what I want/need in a car, what about you? What would you like to see in a car? Please leave me comments because I'll be taking them all with me - this is your opportunity to share with Ford what you want/need in a car.

I am a mom also, and I want a sleek looking family car. I refuse to buy a mini van. I currently drive a honda element and even though it's boxy (which I don't like), it is roomy and the back seat is tiered higher like a theater (which I do like). It is taller than most cars and has the feel of an SUV but is not bulky. So when inside I love driving it, on the outside it is not appealing. Just because we have kids doesn't mean we don't want to look good in our cars. Functional and Fabulous is what I want!

SAFETY IS #1

Bucket Seats-I need the ability to walk down the aisle while inside the car.

Sensors that will ring the alarm if a baby is left inside the vehicle.

Mirrors and Sensors when backing up-I would like to see what's behind me when I'm backing out of parking spots.

I have more thoughts. I'm typing with one hand. I'll be back later to type more. :)

The perfect mommy car is always on my mind. I'm so glad Ford is taking the time to listen to what real women want in a car!

I had the same jaguar you did and I broke down at least twice with with. One time Hubby was stranded on the highway with Oldest. The car was sexy but after the good looks there was nothing there.

I'm with the previous commenter: Functional and Fabulous is what I want!

For example, I LOVE (I mean LOVE)the Audi Q7. But it's not functional for me and my boatload of kids. I do LOVE it though. Audi? Are you listening?

Same goes for the Mercedes M-Class.

And I REALLY like my GMC Acadia. It IS functional and pretty fabulous. It's sleek and offers the benefits of a minivan without looking like one. My only issue is that it's a pain to buckle in kids in the last row. I suppose I could have avoided that if I got a minivan with a sliding door. But I refuse. I am too sexy for a minivan.

I am looking forward to the Ford visit! And I appreciate them asking us what we want in a car. I'm curious to see what they have in the Functional and Fabulous category.

I'm a mommy of one, hoping to expand that two someimt in the near future. I currently drive a Kia Optima whihc I bouth before the husband and the daughter. NOw that we're tryign ti expand our family we're also rethinking our current transportaation needs. So far this is what I have:
1. good gas mileage.... it takes me roughly an hour every morning and evening to do drop off adnpickup and and get to and from work. So the least amount I have to spend on gas the better.
2. I agree with the Fabulous comment by Coach'm up Boni. right now I am inlove with the Merceds R class and the Honda Pilot. I love them both. But I'm still lookin out.
3. Must have lots of inside spaciness, and compartments to store things.
4. I like the rear-view camera and the parking sensors.
5. Wonderful stereo system
6. if somehow i can remotely start the engine and airconditon that would be great. I live in a hot climate, so jumping in my car in the middle of the day is torture!

So yea ..Funtional and Fabulous!!

how about a built in optional forward facing 5 pt harness car seat. I would spring for that so I don't have to worry if my car seats are in correctly. I could just buckle them in and go.
