Better Tuesdays: A little something to get you started

Today is Better Tuesday (better late than never, right) and we’re taking another angle because we’ve got something for you! Something that we hope will get you on your way to Becoming a Better U. We've been urging you to join us on our 12-week journey to becoming more heart-healthy and now we're coaxing you into it. Well, not really, but kinda!

Compliments of the AHA, we’ve got three Better U, Better Me kits just for you! We all received our own kits last week and because we’re trying to get you involved too, we want to share a kit with you.

Each kits includes:

Super-cute tote bag for the gym
BPA-free water bottle
Go Red Grocery Guide to help you make heart-healthy choices at the store
Go Red yoga mat
Our signature red dress pin
Heart-healthy snack, Craisins

The BetterU, BetterMe Kit has a retail value of more than $50.

To enter you must (1) become a follower of our blog; and (2) leave us a comment with your heart healthy tip – could be your recipe or could be a change in behavior. For double entries, join the Better U program (click here) and let us know (you can become a "friend" in the Better U community).

A winner will be chosen at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, July 13.

What a great giveaway! I follow Mama Law and my heart healthy tip is to walk as much as possible! I choose far away parking spaces and elect to take the steps over the elevator and escalator whenever possible to get some extra cardio in.

I follow you blog. To keep my heart healthy, I try to do some type of cardio every day. Lately, it has been jump roping but I hope to move up to bike riding.

I'm so glad you're publicizing heart health! There's so much publicity for cancer prevention (which is great), but heart disease is by far the biggest killer of women.

I've had genetically high cholesterol since my early 20s, so I really appreciate it. My tip is cooking with heart-healthy oils like canola and olive oil, and avoiding trans and saturated fats.

I'm already a follower. :o)

I started following your blog today! My tip...

Get off the couch, and put down the cookies. When the kids go outside to play so do I. We jump rope, skip it, play tag and it. We've even invited other their friends over to play relay games. Not only do we run alot, we laugh alot.

I actually burn a ton of calories, playing and having fun!

I am anxiously awaiting the start of my 12 weeks on the Better U program. I joined on Thursday and am so excited tomorrow is Monday and I can actually begin! Who knew Mondays could be something to look forward to?!
My heart healthy tip is to not look at exercise in such a formal way. Choose an activity that interests you. You don't have to join a gym to get in shape. Put on a pair of sneakers at lunch and walk with a co-worker. After work
put on your rollerblades and take the dog for a walk. My favorite activity right now is rollerblading with my yellow lab while my daughter (13) trains for
cross country in the fall. Make exercise fun!!

I'm now a follower and I joined and friended on Better U.

My tip is to eat fruit and vegetables first at every meal.

Also, if you can't avoid a craving, eat half a serving/candy bar/bowl of mac-n-chz/whatever!

Brand new follower here.

My tip:

I start every day with soy milk in the Magic Bullet Blender and assorted frozen fruit. It makes the most delicious smoothie.

What a fun giveaway! My heart healthy tip is to make sure I eat my greens I make green smoothies before I eat my lunch. Banana, other fruit, some frozen strawberries, peaches or mangos, two or three handfulls of greens (spinach, kale, etc.), one teaspoon agave for sweetener, one Tablespoon of Flax oil, and about a cup of water, zip up in the blender til it is no longer leafy. Yummmm, tastes so Green and is really filling so I hardly eat much for lunch now.

Tip:
I had been thinking about what kind of lifetime sport I could take up and chose swimming. I love being in the water, and even on days when I don't want to "exercise" I can talk myself into it by saying 'I'm going to the pool (fun!),' then when I get there of course I want to get in do some laps, water aerobics, whatever. I always feel better after a good swim, and of course it's great for your whole body - especially your heart.

I am a follower after finding you thru Faster Than Kudzu.

The way I'm working towards better heart health is by walking more every day and drinking lots of water.

Thanks for this opportunity.

Cute bag, but what it represent is the most important - women's heart health! I am a heart disease survivor and practice heart healthy eating as well as heart healthy activities that are within my capabilities. I find that walking the high school track close to my house is something that is measurable and keeps me motivated to work towards adding extra quarter miles - I am up to 1 mile a day during the week, 2 on the weekends!

My tip is to keep the good stuff around- don't buy the junk. When you leave for work take a bag of red pepper strips, cuke slices, baby carrots, whole grain crackers, or even cantaloupe cubes for a snack. We eat what is available when we're hungry, so make sure you've got something good. Oh, and you can get the world's BEST cantaloupe here in Halifax Co. Virginia at the Cantaloupe Festival July 24. It's worth the drive!

I love this giveaway! I just found your blog and became a follower. My heart healthy tip is to just get moving wherever you are! I'm a new mom to a 5 month old and haven't found the "right" gym to join yet. So my exercise is throughout the day. In the mornings, I take a few minutes to dance in front of my baby to entertain her and make her laugh. I pick her up and dance around with her. I do arm curls with her. I cradle her in my arms, lift her up and nibble her sides (she's very ticklish there) and then back down. She squeals with delight! Mama's getting her guns back with that tip alone! Also, I park away from my office door and walk and take the stairs up to my office. I try to walk some on my lunch break. Now, I am taking swim lessons so that in a week or two me and baby can enjoy the pool together! So no matter where you are, just keep moving!

I have just signed up for the BetterU! and ventured to your blog which is very motovational! I have been trying to get serious about my heart health and feel this is just what I need!
My heart healthy tip is to find something you enjoy doing to exercise your heart. We have a trail in our community and I enjoy taking walks with my husband. It's not only healthy for my body, it's healthy for our marriage because it's a perfect time to connect with each other and have great talks.
