Jon & Kate + 8 - 1?

So what's the deal folks? I heard rumors last week that Jon stepped out, but Kate seemed to be confident that the rumors weren't true and optimistic that the marriage could withstand this rough patch. Then I heard another report last night that they're splitting.

I have seen the show but I don't watch it religiously (what? I know and I'm a reality tv junkie). So, I am by no means in a position to really comment about it. But, I've been hearing bits of info and I have so many conflicting thoughts about the situation.

First, I saw a clip where Jon said (and I'm paraphrasing here) - sometimes I just want to be Jon, not Jon and Kate plus eight. I could totally understand where he's coming from. There are times that I just want to be Ny, not mommy or wifey, just Ny. And I'm pretty sure you guys can relate.

Then, on that same thought I assume he wanted to get married and wanted to have kids - mind you he may not have asked for eight kids, but he wanted kids. When you make a decision to have kids, then your priorities should change. You've got to put their well-beings ahead of yours. So, buddy these are ALL your kids (and there is no doubt about that - just look at them) so you've got to step up to the plate and be responsible.

Also related to that thought, where does he get off trying to leave this marriage and family and leave Kate with eight kids to raise on her own - that's ludicrous!

On the opposite side, although I don't watch the show every week, the times that I have seen it there is such little love between Jon and Kate. It's so apparent in their body language and they way they talk to each other. It's very, very noticeable in Kate. She speaks to him like he's a child. There is no romance (but c'mon we know how that goes so neither of them gets dinged here) BUT there is no intimacy in the way they interact either. Have you ever seen them sitting on the couch together during the interviews? He always sits with his arm around her while she scoots over as far as she can to the other side of the couch (and it's an really an oversized chair) and turns her body away from him. She acts like she's really disgusted with and by him - acts like she doesn't even want him around. So I look at this and it doesn't come as a surprise that they may be separating. I'm not excusing his actions (so don't beat me up) but I'm just not that surprised.

As you can see, my thoughts are all over the place on this one - but I do hope that they figure out a way to make sure that those kids are protected and happy. If that means sticking out or separating - whichever way they decide just as long as those kids are happy, that's all that matters to me!

Well, I AM a faithful Jon and Kate watcher. I've watched every episode - sad but true.

First, when Jon said he just wanted to be "Jon" he meant that in regards to being part of a "celebrity couple" on a popular show. He can't just go out and be anonymous. Whenever he's in the paper or on a website it's, "Jon from Jon and Kate Plus 8." I don't think his comment had anything to do with the kids really.

But YES you are right that the love seems to be lost between them and it's sad. I remember on the earliest seasons they used to laugh and joke so much. You could tell beneath all the stress they really did love each other.

But I guess things are different now. I pray they are just going through an EXTREMELY rough patch because I think those kids are darling and deserve (and NEED) to have both parents in the house, loving and kissing and tickling them every day! :)

My kids and I love Jon and Kate plus 8. We watch it all the time. I did notice the way she is away from him, maybe that stems from anger towards him, who knows.

I do think it is wrong for him to walk away from the family b/c since they have so many kids, they should try to work it out, at least.

It's a shame how people think divorce or separation is the answer to to everything in a marriage when it doesn't look pretty. Marriage is not pretty 100% of the time; it's hard work and you have to work on it to make it last. It's not always the other person, it is always both spouses. They don't say "It takes two" for nothing. I hope they make it work.

I saw clips of the new episode and I feel so bad for the kids; they look sad compared to previous episodes.

Tara, I really agree with you. I hope this is just a rough patch, because those kids do need both parents in the home.

As a mother of 7, I know the amounts of stress that can be put on a marrigae, everything is pushed to the side because your main focus is on the kids.

At the same time, this is the life we deciced upon. My husband and I knew we wanted a large family and so we work at it everday.

Hopefully, Jon and Kate can do the same.

Hugs and Mocha,
Stesha

I watched Jon and Kate for a period faithfully and this was a show that I could get my daughter to watch without her screaming that she wanted to watch Dora. But I liked the show. I agree that Kate talked to Jon alot like he was a child. I agree with Lisa divorce is not always the answer to everything. Marriage is hard work and you have to work at it everyday. I hope they take counseling or something because I think they will be misearable without each other and their kids will suffer also. I have seen the video of Kate;s brother and wife and it sounds like Kate is wanting to stay with the show for money, but Jon hates the way it has changed their lives. Sometimes you have to do what you gotta do to make things work and if that means canceling the show I think they should do it. It seems that alot of these reality show mess up alot of people's lives. Money can only satisfy for a moment and once its gone you have to look at all you have and ask yourself was it all worth it. This all made me think of the scripture in Matt. 16:26 which says, What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?

Yeah, I too, watched Jon and Kate for a little while and then had to move on. Then, I read Kate's interview with People while at the airport recently. From the People article, I can tell you, unless Kate changes her attitude, this marriage is not going to work. Every marriage goes through tough times, but you have to be willing to do what it takes to make it work. In that People article, Kate makes it painfully clear that she is NOT willing to cancel the show to make it work. Sorry....the reality is she is not that committed to her marriage. She would rather see her family fall apart than cancel the show. She is thinking that because she will have the income from the show, she won't need Jon. But she is being incredibly immature if she thinks that her kids don't need their dad, in the house with them. Kate, get it together sister. Jon's a good man and a good father and the money from the TV show cannot replace their father tucking them in every night.

I think, unfortunately, that the decisions that Jon and Kate have made about their family are not helping their relationship.

I don't know that my marriage could stand up to living life under public scrutiny... It's hard enough just raising seven kids and working on keeping our marriage fresh and strong.

I read a piece in a mag last night (I don't remember which one... I just picked it up at a friend's house) that said that Jon is staying in the guest house. How difficult it must be for the children, having to deal with the stress and pressure of not only their parents potentially splitting, but doing so in such a public way.

It's the kids I feel sorry for. They didn't ask for any of this drama.
