Disney's Mad Women

I never finished posting about my fabulous trip to Disney. Hi Disney Moms! In case you missed my post from two weeks ago, a group of us were invited to Disney so that we could provide the Disney folks our two cents on Disney's current marketing and advertising campaigns. The focus was whether Disney does or doesn't appeal to African-American families, and why. We spent a great weekend with several Disney executives that either oversee or work directly in PR and advertising. (Thumbs up, BTW, to Disney, for having such a diverse staff! More companies should model your commitment to diversity!)

Being with these women who shared an obvious energy about their company was awesome. The whole time I was there I kept thinking of the show, Mad Men. You know, the best show on television. Set in the 1960's, the main characters of the show are a group of high powered advertising men that work on Madison Avenue in Manhattan, NY. If you haven't scene it before, I warn you, you'll get addicted. Check it out on Demand.

The men of Mad Men would never think to sit down with a group of consumers, especially women, and ask us what we thought. They are above that, much to smart, paid way too mujch, and, much to talented to even think of such thing. Not Disney's Mad Women. They sat us down for some straight talk about the company. What they are doing right or wrong, and what could be done differently. Amazing.

Isn't it great how as bloggers, we have the ability to impact the advertising world? How we can share our opinions, ideas, or criticisms and people will listen? We can reach out to tens of people every day, (ha, ha), that we've never met and then end up being hosted by a company because they want our two cents on their product. How cool is that?

Well, I love Disney, and have always loved Disney, and even before they treated me to champagne, limousine service, and before I sat around a table in a bar taking shots of lemon drops with one of their mad women, I was a fan of the company. Now I'm hooked.

By the way, for any other companies that may come across this post, I've got a lot of opinions, so feel free to contact me if you want to put me up for a weekend. (*wink!)

PS, Did I mention that I met Patrick Ewing while at Disney? Hey Patrick!! Remember to leave a comment! :)

Go Disney Moms!!

If you would have told me a year ago (when I started my blog) that I'd get a free trip to Disney just for coming online and forcing my opinion on other people :-) I'd have said you were crazy! The power of the online community is amazing.

It still feels a bit unbelievable. I miss you guys! Wish we'd had a couple more days to hang out.
