Kiddie Etiquette

Tomorrow is my New Member's Class for the church I recently joined. The problem is that we don't have a babysitter and my husband has to run his sports league so that leaves the 2 kids with me. I just spoke to the Pastor about it and she told me that they "understand kids, so if I have to bring the kids, then bring them" but I sort of got the feeling that they weren't thrilled with the idea. Should I just miss the class? Should I go to the class with the kids? How will I be able to keep them occupied/calm/quiet for 5 hours? Is bringing them to the class rude?

Oh how I long to live close to some grandparents.

I don't think you should go. First, it's a five hour meeting. There is NO way that a 2 1/2 year old and a 13 month old can withstand being in one place (other than home); well-behaved and quiet for that time. There is just no way!

Second, there seems to be some hesitation from the pastor. You didn't get....of course, bring the kids. You got, we understand....

Third, if they were accomodating of children during the class, they would have made some arrangements; so that leaves me to believe that they hadn't expected kids to be in the mix.

Please bring them to my house...I'll watch them. It'll be lots of fun...it'll be a great play date.

Ooh, yeah, 5 hours is a long time for even the most patient of kids. I hear you about having parents nearby. We have to import ours from Nebraska at least a couple of times a year, but for emergencies, we're screwed.

Hy Stacey -
Just wanted to 2nd what justice NY said- the pastor didn't seem overly welcoming to the idea, which would seriously end up stressing you out every time they made a noise, or needed to have your un-div-id-ed attention for like 30 seconds.

Anyways, I just hope you stay home and cuddle those love-bugs up!

Oh, and sports-league? What is that? Sounds much more kid friendly....can't Mr. Justice bring the kiddos with him??

5 hours? it's not rude it's CRAZY to bring them to a class for 5 hours. I'm sure they will let you know within the first 10 minutes! :)

Why is the class so long?

Can't they break it up like 1 hour a week or day or something? Just a thought. Good luck and let us know what you decided on.

I don't think you should go with the kids...trust your instinct that the pastor really didn't feel it was a good idea, but did want to be nice. If I lived near you, I would totally babysit.

Thanks everyone. I decided to stay home after all...

Oh, and Stacey? You hit it RIGHT on the head re. the sports league! That's what I was thinking. But "apparently" since today is opening day for the season, it would be too hard for hubby to watch the kids what with registration, etc.

Hmph. Yeah, that's what I said.

;)

I'm glad to hear that you stayed at home. Although, you could have taken me up on my offer to have a playdate. I told you it would have been fun. Let me know when your next class is scheduled for.

Um...Ny, taking you up on your offer would have required you to answer your PHONE. Check your caller id m'dear.
