Cross Examination...

I hate to sound all "Sunday morning television" and whatnot, but I read this article in Essence last night about finding your life's purpose. They had the following exercise for readers to complete to uncover clues to what your true life's purpose is. I thought it might be interesting to pass on. [Note: Don't ponder too hard - the first answers that come to you are probably the most truthful.] Here it is:

"I can't imagine life without ____________. When I'm spending time _______, hours pass and I don't even notice. It saddens me to know that so many people don't have __________, but what gives me hope is knowing that each of us has the power to ____________. Sometimes the effort it takes to ____________ is exhausting, but what keeps me going is the knowledge that _________. When I went through the painful experience of ____________, it just strengthened my faith in _________ and my resolve to __________. My dream is to create ___________. It's the reason I ____________ each day, and it's why I think about _____________ as I go to sleep each night. Some call it a mission. Turns out, it's my purpose."

If you figure it out and if you're up to it, please do share what your purpose is! Not sure what mine is yet...

Hmmmm, interesting. I'm not sure what my purpose is.

Mine came out to be parenting. Imagine that!

Mine too! I expected mine to be about my husband first, but most of my answers involved my children which made me a bit confused. It should be about my husband shouldn't it?

I think my husband SHOULD be at the top of my list, but it sure is hard keeping him there! Sometimes I feel like life is conspiring to push us apart through sheer busyness. It takes a lot of effort for us to stay connected. And with 3 little kids, my attention is often more on them than on him. I told him I absolutely NEED to go out of town with just him at least once a year.

Trips with hubbys are a must. We try to do something at least 2 times a year, if not more. Even if it's just sending the kids to grandma's for the weekend and us staying at home, it really refreshes the marriage.

Hubby and I are in desperate need of a vacation by ourselves. It's hard because we have no family to babysit that live near us. I think our last vacay alone together was our Philly trip in May of 2004 before my Oldest arrived! I will say that since July of this year we have really made an effort to do a "date night" [or day] at least once a month and that has been going well. It's amazing what a few hours alone can do to revitalize you and bring you closer together.

RE. My Purpose: My purpose is being a mother too! It was a no-brainer the first time I read it but I kept thinking "there must be something else since there are millions [billions?] of parents out there already."

My purpose being about my husband didn't even cross my mind. Oops!
