Stay Near Home Mom

I'm guessing it's because I've been away from home a lot in the past few months, but my girls are now asking me to stay home on a daily basis. It's unusual because they generally don't pay hubby or I any mind if one of us comes or goes, but lately, they get upset if I even leave to get my hair done. And mama needs to get her hair done. In the past couple of months I've been to Pittsburgh, Dallas, Bethany Beach, New York, Atlanta, and Los Angeles. So I totally know why they keep asking why Mommy always has to go to "meetings." Along with everything else, balancing the travel aspect of my career and professional pursuits is becoming increasingly difficult. Of course, they're totally fine when I'm gone...it's just that I miss them. Terribly. And apparently they miss me too. Hubby and I are gearing up to go away for Thanksgiving since we never get to go away together. I'm already starting to feel a twinge of guilt about that.

Every.single.morning they ask me why I have to go to work. They plead with me to stay home. Try having your heart broken each weekday morning on your way to the metro. It sucks. Big time. I explain that I need to work to earn money so that we can pay for things like groceries and Hannah Montana boots. So, over the weekend Chatterbox came up with her own solution: "You can work at my school, Mommy! You can help Miss D. cut paper frogs."

Oh how I wish I could.

Oh, that's gotta be tough. But I bet the loss of Hannah Montana boots woud be even worse. :)

Oh the guilt! I'm blessed enough so that I work at my children's school, but I'm still too stress to play with them when we all get home. Lately I've been thinking back to the time when I was a stay at home mom....Oh the memories...

I know the feeling. It came to a head when my son was about 5 years old and he drew a picture of the family. It was him, his sister and daddy. When I asked where I was, he said "You were at work". Talk about guilt!!! But now that he is older he understands why I have to do what I do. But you best believe I wish I could be with them a little more.

I've done both -- working and staying home -- and there's nothing like leaving your kids when you just want to stay. Even one extra day per week would make life more human. Hang in there, mama -- and don't feel guilty about being away with your husband! The best gift you can give to your kids is a strong marriage. :o)

Oooo, that's so sweet, cutting out paper frogs.

My children could careless if I'm there as well, but let me leave for a day. You'd think I was gone a week!

My daughter realized the other day that a child in her kindergarten class, has a mom who works at the school. She talked about how lucky he is and wants to know why I can't do that too. Because Hannah Montana boots are expensive and we don't pay teachers what they're worth!

Don't feel guilty, you're a fabulous mommy! And, go with your Husband and have a great time. Showing your children a strong, loving marriage is wonderful for their development.

Oh, and, those Hannah Montana boots cost a grip, don't they?!

I don't know how you travel so much. I would feel awful about being away from my kids so much. My husband stays home with them, but they still beg me to not go to work and stay home and play with them. I give very similar explanations.
