For The Domestic Diva in You...
Here is a cool gift idea one of my girlfriends told me about. It's a Recipe Journal from W & S. The description reads, in part, " this personalized binder will become an indispensable resource and a treasured keepsake. The binder, bound in durable faux leather, makes a thoughtful gift for a bride, aspiring chef or favorite family cook." What about for a domestic diva like myself?? My friend told me she purchased one for her mother and aunt. Funny thing is, I want it. Friend is single, no children so has no need or desire to really cook. But it made me realize how different the lives of my single, no chi
ldren friends are compared to mine. I think this is really cool. As I mentioned in a previous post, I have taken to writing out my recipes. This is something I could pass on to Daugther when she's old enough to learn to cook. I note that I said old enough to cook, not married. My mom started training me when I was about 12. And I am thankful for that.
Mamalaw is a group blog about three moms and wives who just happen to be lawyers too. We have seven kids between us which means that we have no shortage of funny stories, touching moments, reasons to rant and the occasional kernel of parenting wisdom. In our "spare time," we founded

HOW FUNNY. You won't believe me but this recipe journal has been on my wish list since last Christmas. I kid you not!! Right now my recipes are all shoved into a too-small folder and are all jumbled up. When I saw this, I fell in love. You can even personalize it. With any luck, I'll get it this year!
While we're on the subject. I just adore Williams-Sonoma. Whenever I get the catalog in the mail, I so look forward to reading it. And their holiday catalog is heavenly. I always say that if I could win a shopping spree to any store, it would be W-S. Anyway, just so you know, my ultimate plan is to have a big party - once I move into my dream house - that is decorated and catered in large part by W-S. Don't worry, you're all invited. Betcha didn't know that about me! It's a strange love affair.
Since my shameful 1950's housewife secret is out, I can tell you all about my favorite luxury cleaning products. Have you heard of Caldrea? My favorites are the Sweet Pea Nursery Spray and Stain Remover and the Daily Shower Cleanser. Everything comes in cute containers and smells lovely. How OLD am I??

I had the marvelous idea of creating cooking journals of my favorite recipes to give as Christmas gifts next year. (I am trying to do more homemade and fewer store bought gifts.) This sounds like a great idea.
Sorry to comment twice, but what is shameful about enjoying homemaking? It's sad that women are "liberated" to choose any career other than wife, mother, or homemaker. Take pride in your talents in this area.
You ladies are absolutely fabulous. You do the mom and wife things so well. I'm still trying to master the mom thing and the wife thing comes out now and again. For some reason I just can't seem to muster up enough energy to cook....and here you guys are talking about writing out favorite recipes. Do you want to come over? I swear if you come over, my husband may try to kidnap you for himself. He's always complaining about the fact that I don't cook. And I know that I said I was going to try harder....and I do....at least there's often times some food in the house (no one ever promiosed that I would cook it myself:).

On the issue of homemaking...Please don't get me wrong - I am very proud of my homemaking skills and I take pleasure in doing [most] of them. I made the "shameful secret" comment in jest. My friends know that I enjoy cooking and entertaining and organizing and living in the 'burbs :) I do think that for a time in the recent past, being a "housewife" was looked down upon by men and even some women. But I think that there has been a trend towards recognizing the value of a woman's work in the home. More and more women are choosing to stay at home with their babies and children and those that choose to work (or that must) are finding ways to remain more engaged in their households, such as working part-time or flex schedules, etc. I think that this has been the catalyst for the renewed focus on the home [think Martha Stewart; Real Simple; Food Network; shows like Clean House, etc.] Anyway, excuse the long comment, but I say all that to say that I am proud to be my "Household CEO" and I am happy that society has taken an interest and that there are new-fangled resources and products to make homemaking even more fun.
